Monde Nissin, a leading food company in the Philippines, is making significant strides in its commitment to sustainability. By embracing eco-efficiency and renewable energy sources, the company is reducing its carbon footprint and conserving water resources.
Monde Nissin manages its electricity through meticulous monitoring of electrical appliances across all plants. Furthermore, they also optimize their steam usage through start-ups and shutdowns, harvesting rainwater, and automating processes. Monde Nissin’s energy conservation team accelerates progress by eliminating losses in electricity and steam. As such, their manufacturing plants have achieved a remarkable 21% reduction in energy intensity in 2022.
Monde Nissin is investing in sustainable energy sources. A 1.3MW solar project in Laguna and a biomass facility in Cebu, powered by coconut shells, are reducing the company's carbon footprint. In addition, Monde Nissin is collaborating with Energy Development Corporation, which allows them to secure a supply of green energy, further reducing its operational carbon footprint. Through all of this, Monde Nissin aims to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) intensity by 50% in its manufacturing operations by 2025.
Monde Nissin recognizes the importance of water conservation. To achieve its water intensity goals, the company adopts a comprehensive approach. They emphasize employee engagement, educating employees about sustainability and its business relevance to foster a culture of responsible water use. Monde Nissin is also exploring rainwater harvesting and effluent recycling to reduce freshwater consumption further.
Monde Nissin shows us that reducing energy and waste consumption is possible even in an already-established setting. They remind us that we, too, can reduce consumption in our own lives. We can reduce our consumption in unlikely places through innovative and creative ideas.
