Discussing new ideas in an office

Social innovation, from its surface meaning, is the process of creating new and creative ideas for a “social cause.” A “social cause” is a pretty vague topic. Some think it involves addressing huge worldwide issues like poverty or climate change. However, a social cause could be smaller if it benefits a particular community.

So we defined the meaning of social innovation… so what? Why do we even need social innovation in the first place? Well, it is due to flawed and outdated systems. Social issues stagnate and remain unsolved due to a lack of innovative and creative ideas. In an ever-changing society, there is a need for fresh ideas to set a change of pace to address both big and small issues worldwide.

Social innovation could be implemented in various circumstances. Still, I want to discuss it in the realm of business briefly. Usually, the main goal of a company is maximizing profits, but that is not the only thing businesses should focus on.

Social innovation from businesses creates a cycle of benefits for the community. Even small acts of innovation internally benefit stakeholders such as employees. Social innovation may start small and seem insignificant. Still, it creates a ripple effect with noticeable effects in the future.
